St Michael's Church in Kirkham, Lancashire, stands on a site with a long Christian heritage dating back to at least 684 AD, making it one of the oldest church foundations in the county. The present building, a Grade II* listed Anglican parish church, dates mainly from the 19th century. The nave was constructed in 1822 by Preston architect Robert Roper. In 1843–44, the impressive 46-metre (150 ft) tower and spire, designed by Edmund Sharpe, were added using Longridge stone. The chancel was later rebuilt in 1853.
